Can You Get Stronger Without Moving?
Research shows mental practice of maximal voluntary contractions can produce small but significant strength gains (typically 10–15% increases) through neural adaptations. While not replacing physical training, imagery supports strength maintenance during immobilisation and may enhance physical training outcomes.

Ranganathan et al. (2004) — Finger Abduction Strength
4 weeks of mental practice (15 min/day, 5x/week) increased finger abduction strength by 22% without physical training. EMG showed no muscle activity during imagery.

Imagery group gained 16% strength vs. 30% for physical training group. Mental practice alone produced over half the gains of physical training through central nervous system adaptations.
